Original research · October 2026

The 2026 tint, detail and wrap shop census: 50,606 Google listings, counted.

On October 9, 2026 we pulled every Google business listing in the United States filed under window tinting, car detailing or vehicle wrapping. This page is what the count says: how many shops there are, how many reviews a typical one has, how many have no website at all, and where they are. One pull, one day, nothing estimated.

The headline numbers

How many tint, detail and wrap shops there are

Google's listings carried 20,146 United States businesses filed under Window tinting service, 8,710 under Vehicle wrapping service and 29,634 under Car detailing service with ten or more reviews (the detailing pull carried a ten-review floor; the tint and wrap pulls did not). Many shops carry more than one: 4,206 listings are filed under both tint and detailing, 2,900 under both tint and wrapping, and 1,541 under all three. That overlap is the niche in one number: a tint shop is usually a tint, film, coating and wrap shop, and often a detail shop too.

Of the 20,146 tint listings, 13,982 have Window tinting service (or Auto window tinting service) as the primary category. The rest are filed first as something else: Car detailing service (1,885), Car stereo store (821), Vehicle wrapping service (654), Auto glass shop (472), Auto repair shop (266) and Truck accessories store (244) lead that list. A shop that tints as a second service and never added the category is not in any of these counts, so every figure here is a floor.

Reviews

How many Google reviews a typical shop has

Reviews decide which shop gets the call, because almost nobody can judge film or a coating before it is installed. This is the distribution on October 9, 2026.

One tint shop in five has not reached ten reviews. One in three has passed 100, and that third is where the map pack is decided in most towns. The shop we publish in full, Tint Guy LLC in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed 1,000 reviews in September 2026, which puts it among 193 of the 20,146. How a tint shop gets into the Google Maps top 3 is the method; the review count is most of it.

Websites

A third of the shops filed first as a tint shop have nowhere for a Google search, an ad or an AI answer to send anyone. For the shops that do, the question is what the page says when a buyer lands: the film by name, the services, the reviews and a way to book. The same profile with a real page behind it is the difference between a listing and a business that gets found.

Three states hold 7,370 of the 20,146 tint listings, a little over a third. The sun belt is the trade's home, and it is also where a tint shop has the most shops to be found among: Houston alone has 267 listings competing for the same three spots on the map.

For detailing the order is California (3,343), Florida (2,809), Texas (2,427), New York (1,341) and Pennsylvania (1,227); for wrapping, California (1,450), Florida (1,052), Texas (977), New York (339) and North Carolina (291). Houston leads every category.

What it means for an owner

Three things the census says to do

Get past 100 reviews

Two thirds of tint shops have not. Ask after every install, at handoff, with a link they can tap in the bay, and answer every review. In most towns that alone moves a shop into the three the map shows.

File every category you work in

4,206 shops carry tint and detailing, 2,900 carry tint and wrapping. A primary category that matches the main work and additional categories for the rest is what makes the profile eligible for each search at all.

Have a page for the search to land on

A third of tint-first shops have no website on the profile. A real page per service, the film and coating brands by name, the reviews, and a way to book is what turns a search, an ad or an AI answer into a car in the bay.

The method we run for shops in this trade is on one page with prices: marketing for window tint, PPF, ceramic coating and wrap shops, and for detail shops, marketing for auto detailing shops. If you want to know where your own shop sits in these numbers, book 30 minutes with John and we pull it before the call.

Method

How the count was made

Source: Google business listings for the United States, pulled through the DataForSEO Business Listings API on October 9, 2026, for every listing carrying the category Window tinting service, Car detailing service or Vehicle wrapping service. 50,933 listings came back; 327 with no United States state on the address were dropped, leaving 50,606. The car detailing pull carried a floor of ten reviews at pull time; the window tinting and vehicle wrapping pulls did not, so the detailing figures are not comparable to the other two below ten reviews. "Primary category" is the first category on the listing. "No website" means the profile's website field was empty; a Facebook, Instagram, Linktree or Yelp address in that field is counted separately. The count is a floor: a shop that tints, details or wraps without carrying the category is not in it, and Google's listings include some closed and duplicate businesses that a single pull cannot remove. Counts are of listings, not of companies; a shop with two locations is two listings.
